Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the types and functions of linguistic landscapes in Bogor Zoological Museum. The object of this study is the signs found in the inside and outside areas of the Bogor Zoological Museum. The method applied in this study is descriptive qualitative which aims to present the analysis in the form of narration with data in the form of images. This study uses Rafael et al.'s (2006) to analyze the type of linguistic landscape and Landry and Bourhis' (1997) to analyze the function of linguistic landscape. The writer found 60 signs collected from observations in the Zoological Museum. The results show that there are 52 signs of top-down type and 8 signs of bottom-up type. In this case, the top-down sign is dominantly found in Bogor Zoological Museum. Furthermore, there are 43 signs classified as the informational function and 17 signs as the symbolic function. Therefore, it can be concluded that the most common type of sign found in the Zoological Museum is the top-down sign which indicates that the Zoological Museum is a semi-public space managed by the government.
