Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of register based on the word formation process and describe the meaning of the register used by Thai enthusiasts on Twitter in Indonesia. The theory used for this study was theory by Yule (2010) about the word formation process and the lexical and contextual meaning. The method used in the study was qualitative descriptive approach since this study was analyzed in a narrative technique. The data source in this study was the post uploaded by members of Thai Enthusiast on the @Fessthai Twitter account from September – December 2022, with the questionnaire shared to Thai Enthusiast from 27 January 2023 – 2 February 2023. The results showed that there were 30 data found, which were then categorized into ten words formation processes, with the results being 4 blending, 9 borrowings, 2 compounding, 1 back-formation, 3 multiple processes, 6 acronyms, 2 derivations, 1 clipping, 2 conversions, and 0 coinage. In addition, the results of the questionnaire regarding contextual meaning from the data found to show that all data has contextual meaning but not all data has lexical meaning because it is a term derived from the person's name.
