Abstract

The purposes of this study are to find nouns in The Expendables 3 and to analyze the translation techniques to translate them into Bahasa Indonesia. This is descriptive research. The data source belongs to all nouns found in The Expendables 3. They were analyzed using the combination of Oliva, Meehan & Colombres (2018), and Beare (2019). Meanwhile, to analyze the translation techniques, Molina and Albir (2002) were used. From the analyses, it was found that concrete nouns dominated the nouns. There are 112 of 306 data (37%). After that, there is a common noun, which is 75 of 306 data (25%). The next one is the abstract, which is 72 of 306 data (24%). The last least two are proper nouns (25 or 8%) and collective nouns (22 or 7%). Meanwhile, from the translation techniques, there are single and couplet techniques found. In single, the most used translation technique is literal, which is applied to 126 data (50,2%). The rest are, modulation 35 data (13,9%), borrowing 22 data (8,8%), linguistic amplification 19 data (7,6%), established equivalent 14 data (5,6%), linguistic compression 12 data (4,8%), particularization 9 data (3,6%), generalization 5 data (2%), adaptation 2 data (0,8), compensation 2 data (0,8%), reduction 2 data (0,8%), transposition 2 data (0,8%), and description 1 datum (0,4%). In couplet, the most appearing translation technique is the combination of borrowing and literal 20 data (36,4%). The rest are, literal & transposition 15 data (27,3%), borrowing & linguistic amplification 4 data (7,3%), linguistic amplification & literal 4 data (7,3%), borrowing & transposition 3 data 5,5%), borrowing & calque 2 data (3,6%), linguistic amplification & modulation 2 data (3,6%), borrowing & compensation 1 datum (1,8%), borrowing & linguistic compression 1 datum (1,8%), linguistic compression & literal 1 datum (1,8%), modulation & transposition 1 datum (1,8%), and transposition & variation 1 datum (1,8%).
