Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain Orientalism in The Rib King novel by Ladee Hubbard. This study focuses on Orientalism through the characters depicted in The Rib King. To analyse this study, the writer uses descriptive qualitative. This study uses Orientalism theory by Edward Said (1978). The data collection is obtained by comprehending, identifying, listing, and highlighting the data needed from the novel as the object. The result of this study shows that African Americans in the novel is having some issues regarding the Orientalism, and shows that there are cultural resistance of Black as the orient. However, they are success to struggle and adapt from Orientalism. They are become such successful businessmen. Keywords: African-American, East, Orientalism, West
