Abstract

This study aims to explain the issue of Hybridity how Ana as the main character focused on surviving by her two cultural identities. The object of this study is a novel entitled Dominicana (2019) by Angie Cruz. In order to support this study, the concept of Hybridity to depict the issue based on Postcolonialism theory by Homi K Bhabha (1994) commonly refers to the emergence of new transcultural forms within the contact zone created by colonization. This study applies the descriptive qualitative research method. In this study, the writer focuses on the woman’s survival in her two cultures. The analysis of this study is to indicate two essential parts that can be concluded. First, to figure out how Hybridity issues are reflected in Dominicana novel. Second, to find out how the main character survive from Hybridity in Dominicana novel. The portrayed of Ana as the main character who lives in life survival possibility in America, learning the English language, deal with an American food and American culture. The result of this study indicate that the main character must engage in a cultural strategy of hybridity in order to be accepted and survive in her community and support her dreams. Despite her enjoyment of American culture, Ana makes an effort not to forget Dominican cultures. The diasporic subject can use this strategy to negotiate its interests in the midst of the host society and the dominant cultural power, without having to abandon Dominican culture entirely.
