Abstract

This study aimed to identify the types of code-switching and explain the factors of code-switching in Surga Yang Tak Dirindukan 2 movie. The data of this study were the utterances of code-switching in Indonesian – English used by the characters in the movie. The writer used a qualitative approach in conducting the study. This study applied the theory from Wardhaugh (2006) to identify code- switching types, namely situational code-switching, and metaphorical code- switching. Furthermore, the theory from Holmes (2013) was used to analyze the factors of code-switching, such as participant, solidarity, status, and topic. From the data analysis, the writer found 30 types of code-switching including 9 situational code-switching and 21 metaphorical code-switching. Furthermore, four factors of code-switching classified into participants (3), solidarity (5), status (8), and topic (14). Keywords: code-switching, factors, movie, types
