Abstract

This study aims to reveal the oppression and how women fight for their rights and existence in Angi Cruz's novel Dominicana (2019). In that novel, several female characters have to face oppression by female characters because of the patriarchal system, therefore, female characters try to fight against this oppression. In analyzing the issues, the writer applies the concept of feminism theory from Simone De Beauvoir, in her book entitled The Second Sex (1949). The writer uses a qualitative method that focuses on how the depiction of women who are considered to have the lower class and how the female characters fight against this is presented through a collection of narrative texts in the novel. The results of this study show how the female character tries to do the things she wants, such as being educated, earning money, and making herself a subject. The way the female character does this is a representation of how the female character struggles to face the patriarchal system.
