Abstract

This study aims to investigate the types of slang and find out the function of slang used in the comedy series ‘Man Like Mobeen’. This study used qualitative methods, data is collected, described, and analyzed in the form of words. In this study, the writer used Allan and Burridge's (2006) theory to identified the types of slang, and to classified the functions of slang, the writer used theory of Zhou and Fan (2013). The results of this study indicate that there are 5 types of slang used in the comedy drama series 'Man Like Mobeen'. Among them are, Fresh and creative, Flippant, Imitative, Clipping, and Acronym. Fresh and Creative is dominate the types of slang words used in this comedy series. Meanwhile, regarding the function of slang, there are 2 functions of slang in this comedy series. Including, Achieving Politeness and Emotive Feeling of Slang Users. The function of slang that is most often found in this comedy series is Emotive Feeling of Slang Users. Along with the times, of course, the language is also developed. For this reason, learning slang is important, especially for people who are interested in learning it.
