Abstract

This research study, titled "Inspiration for the Nation" Episode 3: The Orthodox Jew at Disney, Dreamworks & Netflix, focuses on identifying and explaining different types of presuppositions in the podcast. The study used Yule's (1996) theory of presuppositions, which classifies them into six types: existential, factive, lexical, structural, non-factive, and counterfactual presuppositions.The analysis of the podcast data revealed that the most common type of presupposition is the factive presupposition, specifically triggered by definite descriptions. Out of 22 data points, 8 were identified as factive presuppositions. The second most common type is lexical presupposition with 5 instances, followed by existential presupposition with 4 instances. Non-factive presuppositions and structural presuppositions each had 2 instances, and the least used type was counterfactual presupposition, with only one instance found in the podcast.
