Abstract

The title of this study is “An Analysis of Skateboarding Jargon Used in South Tangerang Skateboarder Community: A Sociolinguistics Study”. This study discussed jargon in skateboarding which was used by the South Tangerang Skateboarders Community around Bintaro and Alam Sutera. The purposes of this study were to find out the types of skateboarding jargon and to know the meaning of skateboarding jargon used in the community. This study focused on Halligan’s theory to complete the analysis, the theory divided types of jargon into four, and they were: word, phrase, acronym, and abbreviation. Descriptive qualitative method was applied in this study to analyze the data and the data were taken from the words and phrases that the South Tangerang Skateboarders Community used when they played skateboarding. The results found that the meaning of skateboarding jargons show the techniques of how to do a trick, parts of the skateboard, and the obstacle in the skatepark. Then, there were 30 skateboarding jargons used by South Tangerang Skateboarders Community. They were 20 jargons in words, 8 jargons in phrases, 1 jargon in abbreviation, and 1 jargon in acronym.
