Abstract

The thesis is entitled “Social Class Gap In Sadeqa Johnson's Yellow wife” 2021. The writer uses the novel Yellow wife by Sadeqa Johnson as the object. This analysis aims to explain how social class is described in the novel and its conflicts in social life. In this thesis, the writer uses the approach or theory of Marxism from Karl Marx and Fredrich Engels. The method used in writing this thesis is a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results of the analysis, the findings in this study describe the social class gap between slaves and slave owners as indicated by the treatment of feudalism and alienation by slave owners towards the slave class. The slave class experienced acts of slavery, torture and exclusion of their rights. This class difference was created because of social class, which they classified their social class, namely slave owners and the slave class. Their upper class was the class of the rich and slave owners, so they were respected because they were considered to have power as masters over slaves. Slave owners did not want to consider slaves to be their class. The social class gap was measured in terms of power or wealth, privileges and power that influenced the position, lifestyle, habits and behavior between slave owners and slaves, so the gap between the two classes was so stark.
