Abstract

This study aims to delve into the symbols embedded within a particular music video and unravel the significance of these signs. The method used in the analysis of this music video is qualitative. The focus is on determining whether these signs have a connection and serve as representations of the song's lyrical content. The approach employed in this study is semiotic analysis, utilizing Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis tools, precisely the two-stage significance comprising denotation, connotation, and myth. These stages are further dissected into the signifier and signified, operating at both the denotation and connotation levels. This research shed light on the relationship between the Broken Heart of Gold music video and the underlying meaning conveyed by the song's lyrics. The writer discovered that the music video echoed themes of disappointment, sadness, and misery, aligning closely with the emotional narrative expressed in the lyrics.
