Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find utterances which contain presupposition, to classify the triggers of presupposition and types of presupposition, and change them into negation form that are found in Between You And Me novel. The method used in this study is qualitative. In addition, libraries and internet are used to get some information which support the study as well. To collect the data to get presupposition in the dialogues, the writer read the novel many times. Then the collected data were classified and analyzed based on Yule’s theory (1996) and Huang’s theory (2007). Presupposition is divided into eight triggers of presupposition and six types of presupposition. It was found that there are 38 presuppositions. The most frequently presuppositions used in Between You And Me novel by Kirsty Scott is definite description or existential presupposition.
