Abstract

This study is entitled “The Reflection Of Racial Discrimination In Paul Beatty’s The Sellout”. The object of this study uses a novel entitled The Sellout novel by Paul Beatty. The qualitative descriptive approach is a method used by the writer to present an analysis of the depiction of racial discrimination that exists through the writings in the novel. The purpose of this study is to analyze the depiction of racial discrimination by white people and the struggle of black people against racial discrimination for racial equality. In this novel, the story is about the main character an African American man who experienced discrimination, especially by American white people. The writer also finds several racial discrimination acts that happen to the main character, his father, and his groups. The racial discrimination acts in this novel were unfair treatment, segregation, and the slavery system. After facing racial discrimination the main character builds a plan in any way to get racial equality. To address the question of the problem formulation regarding racial discrimination issue, the writer uses the theory from Critical Race Theory (2001) by Richard Delgado and Jean Stefancic's, utilizing their insights into racial discrimination in America. This study also concludes that the phenomenon of Racial Discrimination in the book The Sellout is an original story lifted from the personal experience of an African-American man.
