Abstract

This study describes the analysis of psyches functioning and defence mechanisms which are found in the book of Hansel and Gretel which is told by Deanna MacFadden. The focus of this study is to figure out the psyches functioning and defence mechanisms from the selected fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative in analysing the tale. The writer collects the analysis of the characters through the characterizations of the story and conflicts that happens of all characters both internally or externally. The result of this study shows MacFadden describes all characters of the tale Hansel and Gretel based on the psyches functioning and defence mechanism from each character of the book. Every character in this book its own way to describe the content of the story. This study reveals how the psyches functioning and defence mechanisms employed by all characters.
