Abstract

This study aims to analyze the resistance to racial discrimination in which the novel is aimed at immigrants. This topic discusses an immigrant who gets racially discriminated treatment in America so that there is resistance. The object of this study is a novel entitled Americanah (2013) by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. This novel tells the story of a young woman who immigrated to America to continue her academic education. There are so many challenges that must be faced, such as cultural, social, and language. But the main character can overcome every challenge faced with courage and struggle. This study uses a qualitative method that presents the analysis in citations. To guide this study, the writer uses the perspective of post-colonial Homi K. Bhabha's (1994) resistance to racial discrimination. The analysis result that there is a struggle against racial discrimination carried out by immigrants. The form of racial discrimination and its resistance is shown in actions and conversations. The categorization of appearance, actions, and different accents between immigrants and local people is very visible. The novel which is the object of this study presents the resistance to racial discrimination against immigrants when moving from their place of origin to a different place. Courage and struggle against every form of racial discrimination are needed. So that they live with courage and struggle against acts of racial discrimination wherever they are.
