Abstract
This study aims to reveal how Korean immigrants in Japan struggle to survive and actualize themselves based on their abilities in the novel “Pachinko” written by Min Ji Lee. Therefore, this research focuses on the form of self-actualization that is owned and how each character struggles to work based on their abilities to have a better life. The theory used in researching this problem is Abraham Maslow's Theory of Self-Actualization (1970). A qualitative approach used in the research. The results of the study show that there are four dominant forms of self-actualization in each character, such as: Spontaneous and Simplicity, Quality of Detachment, Autonomy: independent of culture, and Love. It was also found in the process of self-actualization carried out by fulfilling human needs using Maslow's hierarchy of human needs which is dominated by aspects of love and belongingness. Keywords: The dominant form of self-actualization, Spontaneous and Simplicity, Quality of Detachment, Autonomy: independent of culture, and Love. Love and belongingness.
