Abstract

This study is aimed at analyzing the signs on home property advertisements on billboards. The study finds out and classifies the representament, object, interpretant, messages according to the textual and visual sign using triadic model by applying Charles Sanders Pierce’s theory. The research method was the descriptive qualitative method. The data are collected from the thirty home property sale advertisements on billboards in South Tangerang which contained the representamen, object, and interpretant according to textual and visual sign. The result of the study show that the textual signs are dominantly showed based on or conforming to a text related to meaningful term, phrases and sentences. Moreover, the visual signs are dominantly showed based on art, symbols, typography, images, graphic design, illustrations, and colors. It can be concluded that triadic theory is needed to reveal how the signs can make sure the buyers to deal with a cluster or housing unit.
