Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the types of the error made by students of SMP Muhammadiyah Serpong and to describe the causes of error. The object of this study is the students’ writing descriptive text. This study applies the descriptive qualitative research method an analysis presented in the form of text and numbers.To guide this study, the writer uses the perspective of Dulay (1982) in identifying the type of errors in writing. Based on the analysis, the writer classified the error into four types; 7 (17,5%) error of omission, 2 (15%) errors of addition, 13 (32,5 %) error of misordering, and 18 (45%) error of misformation errors of as the dominant errors. This study also found that writing errors in students’ writing text because of intralingual interference to transfer language from the mother tongue into a foreign language. The writer concludes that intralingual interference is one of the factors that cause errors to occur in writing. Keyword: Descriptive text, error analysis, simple present tense
