Abstract

The study explored the use of Code Mixing in Livjunkie Youtube Channel. This study aims to identify the types of code-mixing and analyze the functions that influenced people to do code-mixing in their language. The data of this study were Indonesian - English code-mixing used by Livjunkie on Youtub and the writer took three videos to interpret this study. This study used a qualitative method. The study used Muysken's (2000) theory to identify the types of code- mixing, namely Insertion, Alternation, and Congruent Lexicalization. Additionally, Hoffmant's (1991) theory was used to analyze the functions of code- mixing, namely talking about particular topic, quoting somebody else, interjection, being emphatic about something, repetition used for clarifcation, intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor and expressing group identity. From the data analysis, it was found the dominant type of code-mixing is alternation. Moreover, the function that is dominantly found in this study is talking about a particular that influenced people to do code-mixing.
