Abstract
This study aims at finding out the dominant types of errors and the causes of error analysis using simple present in the descriptive text made by 10th-grade students of MA Manahijul Huda Pati-Jawa Tengah. The method of this study used a descriptive qualitative method. These errors are identified based on Ellis’s theory, which is the omission, misinformation, overgeneralization, and misordering. Meanwhile, the causes of errors are identified based on Richards’s theory, which is the interlingual error and intralingual error. The results of this study showed that there were 3 out of 4 types of errors were found, namely: omission, misinformation, and overgeneralization. The dominant type of error is misinformation. 52 errors consist of 36 or 69,2% errors of misinformation, 10 or 19,2% errors of omission, and 6 or 11,6% errors of overgeneralization. The causes of errors are the students commonly occurred because students lack knowledge in using the simple present tense, the student failed understanding certain structures, influenced by first language interference, and confusion in using "s/es" in verbs that require suffixes. An error of misinformation occurred because the student failed to observe certain structures or based on Richards’s theory is an intralingual error.
