Abstract
This study analyzed taboo words that are used in Deadpool 2 Movie Script by David Leitch (2018). This study is aimed at finding out the types, and functions of taboo words that are used by the characters in Deadpool 2 movie script. In this study, the writer used qualitative approach and descriptive method to analyze Deadpool 2 movie script. The data were collected from the Deadpool 2 script movie. The writer used theory from Battistella (2005) to identify the types of taboo word and theory from Wardhaugh (2006) to identify the function of taboo word. The result of this study showed there are four types of taboo words used by the characters of Deadpool 2 movie script, those were epithets, profanity, vulgarity, and obscenity. Based on the data that have been analyzed, the writer found 15 data considered as epithets, 3 data classified as profanity, 7 data of vulgarity, and 8 pieces data considered as obscenity. The writer also found three of four functions of taboo word as to draw attention to oneself, to show contempt, and to be aggressive or to be provocative.
