Abstract

The aim of this study entitled “Anxiety Disorder in I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver” is to describe the anxiety disorder of the main character in the novel I Wish You All the Best (2019) by Mason Deaver which has been analyzed based on a psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud (1936). Moreover, the data source in this research is the novel I Wish You All the Best (2019) by Mason Deaver. I Wish You All the Best is about an 18-year-old teenager namely Ben who experiences anxiety disorder after getting dumped by their parents. Then, Ben experiences some symptoms of anxiety and after that, with their older sister's advice, Ben finally decides to see a psychiatrist and confront their anxiety disorder towards their parents. In addition, I Wish You All the Best (2019) portrays an issue of anxiety disorder from teenagers' point of view and how they deal with it. In this study, the data is narrative sentences and conversational quotes related to the characters' anxiety consisting of realistic anxiety, neurotic anxiety, and moral anxiety. The research method used is a qualitative method that describes the description data and the data collection technique in this research is the documentation technique while the data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. This study found a type of anxiety disorder, namely neurotic anxiety by several symptoms portrayed in the main character and how the main character deals with it.
