Abstract
The aim of this study entitled “Ambivalent Identity in The Croods 2: A New Age Movie by Kirk Demicco and Chris Sanders” is to analyze the issue of ambivalent and how the main character deal with it, which represented in The Croods 2: A New Age. The Croods 2: A New Age (2020) is an animated adventure comedy film which looking for a place called “Tommorow”. Then the Croods meet the Betterman family who have a different cultural identity that causes an ambivalent existence. Therefore, the main character, Grug, has to experience and must deal to terms with the ambivalent of that cultural identity. This study uses qualitative method by Kuckrtz (2014) to analyze data in the form of images and dialogues related to ambivalent and presented in essay. The data were analyzed using the ambivelent theory of Homi K. Bhabha’s (1994). The results showed that there is ambivalent, such as in the main character’s utterances and appearances to the culture identity he visits between the cultural identity of the Croods family and the Betterman family. Moreover, the study found that the main character can deal with ambivalent through the situation that happens to him, as shown by his utterances and appearances when he starts to accept the culture identity between The Croods and the Betterman.
