Abstract

This semiotic study entitled "A Semiotic Analysis on Icon, Symbol and Index in Match Poster on the Worldtaekwondo Instagram Account" aims to identify the type and to find the meaning contained in each icon, symbol and index in it. This study uses a qualitative method to facilitate the writer in analyzing the 8 posters as the data. This study also uses Charles Sanders Peirce's theory to find the type of sign and to find the meaning contained in each icon, symbol and index in the match poster whose data are taken and selected from the worldtaekwondo Instagram account. From the results of the analysis, there are 15 icons, 30 indexes and 39 symbols. From each type classification that has been analyzed, the writer describes the meaning in the form of illustrations, pictures, gestures, shapes, colors, words, and logos contained in the 8 data. The meaning contained in the form of objects that represent the match, the purpose of the match, the participants of the match, the theme of the match, the time of the match, the place of the match, the category of the match, the age classification of the match, access to information of the match, and the organization responsible of the match.
