Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the issue of discrimination and determine the type of discrimination against the characters in the novel. The object of this study is a novel entitled Such a Fun Age (2019) by Kiley Reid. In completing the analysis, the writer uses a qualitative descriptive method. In this study, the writer uses the theory of Fred L. Pincus (2004) regarding the types of discrimination used in study based on novel objects as the main theory. The data from the writers are words and sentences on the characteristics of racial discrimination in the novel Such a Fun Age as data sources. The results of this study indicate that there are characteristics of racial discrimination such as stereotypes and prejudice found in the novel Such a Fun Age. This study resulted in the conclusion that there is a difference between the two races between blacks and whites which describes them as individuals who have different characteristics. These differences can lead to acts of racial discrimination that bring problems and have an impact on the social environment.
