Abstract

This study discusses the effect of teaching grammar using flashcards, especially the simple present tense in the fourth grade of SD Al-Iman Pondok Kacang Barat Pondok Aren South Tangerang. The purpose of this study is to determine the difference in the achievement of students' understanding of grammar before and after using flashcards and determine the effectiveness of flashcards in understanding grammar. The approach of this study is quantitative. The participants are 19 students of the fourth grade in SD Al-Iman. The instrument in this study are pre-test and post-test. The theory used by the writer to conduct this study is the theory of Gelfgren (2012) to define flashcards. It is also supported by the Wilcoxon test results by the theory of Anwar (2009). The result of wilcoxon test shows that the sig (2-tailed) value of 0.001 is smaller than the 0.05 significant value. The result of this study shows that there is a significant effect and a significant difference in the grammar understanding of the fourth-grade students of SD Al-Iman.
