Abstract

This study aimed to reveal about women struggle in visual signs from Demi Lovato’s selected music videos. This study focused on semiotics modeled by Roland Barthes (1967). The objects of the study are two music videos, Substance and Skin of My Teeth by Demi Lovato (2022). As a guide, the writer used Roland Barthes’ Semiotic Theory. It covered the signified and signifier terms that can be seen from denotative and connotative meaning, and myth perspective. To be added, this study applied qualitative research methods by applying the procedure of descriptive data in the form of written words of the people and their observed behavior. Based on the data analysis, it was found that there are twenty- eight data which contained of woman struggle issue; fourteen data were taken from Substance and the rest were from Skin of My Teeth music videos. All the signified and signifier consisted of connotative, denotative, and myth meaning that showed the issue of woman struggle.
