Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the types and the meanings of figurative language used in the written advertisements on beauty products websites of Biore, L’Oreal, MakeOver, Nivea, Oriflame, and The Body Shop. The theory applied in this study was Brown & Attardo (2005) theory to analyze figurative language’s types and meanings. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach and focused on the written advertisements on the websites, which used figurative language. Based on the data analysis, there were seven types of figurative language in thirty written advertisements on the websites. Namely, hyperbole was found seventeen times, and simile was found five times. In addition, alliteration, assonance, and litotes were found two times, and the last ones were irony and metonymy, which were found one time. Furthermore, the meanings of figurative language in the written advertisements on beauty product websites consisted of various meanings to attract potential consumers.
