Abstract
The purpose of study is to analyze the patriarchy and describe how the female character’s struggle against patriarchy depicted in Girls Burn Brighter by Shoba Rao (2018). To reveal the patriarchy issue, a qualitative approach in which the data findings and analysis are presented in essay form or narrative texts. Men as superior always try to oppress women, while women inferior continue to struggle against male domination. This study is entitled “Women’s Struggle Against Patriarchy Through the Female Characters in Girls Burn Brighter novel by Shobha Rao. Furthermore, this study also focuses on describing women’s struggle against patriarchy and how they gain freedom in their lives and believe they are equal with men. The writer uses the feminist theory of Simone de Beauvoir (1949) and Virginia Woolf (1929). The results of this study show that women were inferior, subordinate, non-priority and abused. However, their suffering inspired them to fight against male superiority and male domination so they could get freedom in all aspects of life. Keywords: feminism, gender studies, patriarchy
