Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of translanguaging, code mixing practice and the reason in Bilal Hassani selected song lyrics. The object of this study are the lyrics which use more than one language, including the song “Ro’i”, “Panic”, and “Boom 3x”. This study uses Tse’s theory (1996) to determine the type of translanguaging used, Wardhaugh theory (1998) to analyze code mixing practice and Crystal (1987, as cited in Mustamir, A’s, 2012) theory to determine the reasons for using translanguaging. The method used in this study is a qualitative method, because the data studied are in the form of song lyrics and explained using a word format. The results of this study reveal that of the 20 data using 2 types of translanguaging namely translation and code switching, and there is also found code mixing practice. The process of translating and switching languages in song lyrics is done by interpreting the language and switching languages from one language to another. Meanwhile, for code mixing, there is the insertion of a foreign language in one sentence with a different language. This study also revealed that based on the 20 data collected, it was found that translanguaging application was found on the grounds of a person's tendency to express their form of solidarity with certain social groups and position themselves to show their character on an occasion. Based on the results found, it shows that the practice of translanguaging has a positive impact and provides benefits in several aspects of life, so that people can apply it not only in communicating.
