Abstract

This study aims to examine about racial prejudice that occurs in the novel Count Me In by Varsha Bajaj (2019). Racial prejudice is negative thinking towards individuals or groups that only refers to certain characteristics such as race, religion, skin color, and so on. The object used in this study is the novel Count Me In by Varsha Bajaj. Then, the theory used in this study is The Nature of Prejudice 25th Anniversary Edition by Gordon. W Allport (1954). The study method used is qualitative with a thorough data collection technique in the form of dialogue and text contained in the novel Count Me In. The results of this study indicate that racial prejudice that occurs in Karina is caused by 2 factors, namely appearance, and skin color. The conclusion is that as a result of racial prejudice, Karina gets quite an impact on her daily activities. These impacts are in the form of Verbal rejection, Discrimination and Segregation, and Physical attacks. The benefit of this research is to increase knowledge about racial prejudice, where fellow human beings may not judge other people based on unclear facts and based on dark skin color, because differences in skin color are something unique to a person. Think positively about something different, because the difference is not a bad thing, but a beautiful thing. Keywords: Minority, Racial Prejudice, Struggle
