Abstract
This study is aimed to analyze slang words in Afterlife of the Party film. The analysis focused on identifying the slang word used by the character in the film and answering three-question; what are the types of slang words, what the functions of slang words are, and what are the possible meanings of slang words. The writer used a qualitative method to conduct this study. Moreover, in this study the writer used the theory of slang words from Eric Partridge (1954) to classify the types of slang words, and the theory of Allan and Burridge (2006) to identify the functions of slang words, in addition to the meaning of slang words the writer choose a dictionary book by Tom Dalzell the title is The Routledge Dictionary of Modern American Slang and Unconventional English Second Edition and Merriam-Webster dictionary. The result of this study showed that there were 2 types of slang words used in this film. They are society slang and public house slang. Society slang is the most dominant slang word in this film. Meanwhile, there are 5 functions of slang that are found in this film, they are to address, show intimacy, initiate relax conversation, humiliate, reveal anger, and express impression. The most dominant function of slang words in this film is to address.
