Abstract

The title of this thesis is "Traumatic Experiences of Betrayal in Nora Roberts's Novel "Under Currents." This thesis focuses to analyze the trauma of betrayal in the novel Under Currents by Nora Roberts. This study aims to find out how the trauma of betrayal and the defense mechanism depicted in the novel Under Currents by Nora Roberts using theory from Freyd (1996) to analyze the trauma of betrayal and Freud (1894) to uncover the defense mechanism. This thesis uses the descriptive-qualitative method. The result of this study shows the trauma of betrayal in the novel Under Currents by Nora Roberts depicted mood disturbance, amnesia, and psychological respons to trauma that caused by domestic violence. Furthermore, the defense mechanism uncovered denial, sublimation, projection, rationalization, and displacement.
