Abstract

This study aims to reveal the violation of women's rights that experienced by the main female characters in Alice Munro’s two selected short stories. This study is investigating the factors and actions done by the main characters. The theory that is used is Existentialist Feminism theory by Simone de Beauvoir to examine the issues implied in the short stories. This study uses qualitative approach, and the analysis presents in the essay form. The results of this study discovered the causes of women's rights violations, exploring the private and public spheres. Therefore, it affects the main characters' lives as women that are limited by the patriarchal system that applies in their community and the ways they resist it. The effects of the struggles, both main characters are being forced to do what is being told to them. Nevertheless, they both are having their own way as a form of resistance regarding the system that sets up their activities. Furthermore, they both break down the assumption of patriarchal society towards women. Keywords: Feminism, Patriarchy, Violation, Women Rights.
