Abstract

This study is entitled “Being Brave as a Basic Character Building Represented in Berenstain Bears Picture Books”. The purposes of this study are to analyze critically the process to gain bravery of the main character in The Berenstain Bears Go to School and to analyze the factor bravery influence of the main character built in The Berenstain Bears Get Stage Fright. The theory applied in this study is the concept of a picture book, the character building synthesized with the concept of anthropomorphism in qualitative research. The content of the picture books is contained in the elements of illustrative and narrative that are framed by the theory. The result shows that toddler gains bravery through several stages gradually by the supports of the family and school. The encouragement of being brave experienced by Sister Bear, as the toddler, has been built by the parental obligations and formal education.
