Abstract

The title of this study is “Morrison’s The Bluest Eye: Framing Beauty as Delusion”. This study aims to identify how beauty standards are represented in the novel and how beauty standards affect the character in the story. The concept of beauty standards can change women’s behavior and make them willing to do everything to be beautiful and attractive. By using the qualitative method and applying The Beauty Myth Theory by Naomi Wolf (2002), the result of this study shows that beauty standards such as blue eyes, white skin, blonde hair, beautiful lips, style-hair and it meanings influence the personality of beauty standards as the central discussion; the impacts of beauty standards in this study are self-hatred and delusion.
