      "abstract": "This study aims to analyze the types and communicative purposes of illocutionary \r\nspeech acts used by Nimi Mehta in her interview with Erika on The Balance Theory\r\nPodcast, entitled “Confident isn’t loud, here’s how to find your voice.” The study \r\nis grounded in the importance of understanding speaker intentions in public\r\ncommunication, particularly within motivational interviews that emphasize self�growth and confidence-building. Searle’s (1975) speech act theory serves as the\r\nanalytical framework, and the study employs a descriptive qualitative method. The\r\ndata are taken from the interview transcript and categorized based on the types\r\nand purposes of illocutionary acts. The results show that there are 4 types of \r\nillocutionary acts, namely assertive, directive, commissive and expressive acts, \r\nperformed by Nimi Mehta during the podcast interview; however, no declarative \r\nacts appeared due to the non-institutional and informal nature of the podcast context.\r\nMehta's 10 commissive acts with 3 promises, vowing (2), and declaring stance, \r\nongoing commitment and personal growth stating (1 each) all contribute to her being\r\ncalled an inspirational character who really tries to gain listeners' confidence and\r\nemotional resilience. Overall, there were 35 utterances analyzed assertive acts were\r\nfound 9 times which played roles of support in different forms of stating (2),\r\nexplaining (3) and emphasizing ideas (4), clarifying Mehta’s perspectives and\r\nreinforcing key messages. There are 8 utterances of directive acts, which include\r\n5 asking, 1 questioning and 2 advising, and they have the purpose of encouraging \r\nreflection and self-evaluation through interactive engagement. Expressive acts also\r\noccurred 8 times, in forms of welcoming (1), agreeing (4) and encouraging (3), thus\r\nproviding a bridge of connection between the speakers through empathy and\r\nemotional involvement. The distribution of these illocutionary acts points out that\r\nthe main focus of motivational podcast interviews is on the use of commissive\r\nexpressions and supportive speech strategies, which is consistent with the podcast's\r\nobjective of developing self- awareness, empowerment, and inner confidence in the\r\naudience.",
