Abstract

The title of this study is Portrayal of Patriotism in Ha Jin’s War Trash: A Postcolonialism Perspective by Benedict Anderson. This study aims to analyze patriotism through the characters in War Trash novel. This study focuses on the concept of patriotism. It also reveals the effects that are represented through the characters who show their life during the Korean war. The concept of patriotism by Benedict Anderson (1983) is used in analyzing War Trash novel. Anderson states the concept of patriotism is represented through the action by an individual. This portrayal focuses on the concept of patriotism in the unit through sacrificing and enhancing power on the characters. As the result of the study, it reveals that Yu Yuan has shown his struggle for the unit especially the mainland. This can be revealed through his lifestyle. Also, it identifies his sacrificing and depicting the effects as the comrade in the unit of army by the action.
