Abstract

This study entitled “The Exploitation of Nature in Saunders’ Fox 8 Illustrated Book” aims at discussing the issues of deforestation by human modern society that leads into the animal extinction. Fox 8 by George Saunders (2018) presents a fox named Fox 8 as the protagonist who writes a letter for humans describing his struggles losing his family and friends along with his damaged home. The issues are explained by using the theory of ecocriticism by Glotfelty (1996). The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative and the data in the form of narrative elements. The narrative elements are character and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, and theme were examined to find the issues of animal extinction and deforestation. The result of the study states that human has role in the exploitation of the nature which leads to deforestation and animal extinction.
