Abstract

The study described the concept of human aggression in the main character’s behavior in Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried novel by using Erich Fromm's theory of Human Aggression. This study applies human aggression as a part of the behavior of the main characters conducting destructive and defensive actsto survive his life in social and individual character’s condition. This study uses a qualitative method in the way of collecting the data. The analysis of the theory illustrates how the human aggression concept influences the character’s life in the novel. The result of this analysis choose that human aggression concepts come from malignant, benign aggression behavior that can form a trauma of the character’s behavior. The existence of human aggression in this novel also gives some negative effects to the main characters.
