Abstract

This thesis entitled “An Analysis of Idioms Translation in “Let It Snow “ Novel”. The study focused to find the idioms used in the novel and to analyze types of translation strategy used in translating idioms . The object of this research is “Let It Snow” novel written by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle and translated into Indonesian by Rosemary Kesauly and Kristi Ardiana. This research used qualitative approach by collecting the idiom found in the novel and compared the source language text to the target language. The collected data to be analyzed based on Baker’s strategy of translating idiom. The result of the study shows that there are four translation strategies used in translation of idiom, which include paraphrase, using idiom of similar meaning and form, using idiom of similar meaning and dissimilar form, and omission of entire idiom. In this research, the most translation strategy used by the translators is paraphrase as it appears 42 times (66, 67%) from the whole data (64 idioms).
