Abstract

This study aims to explain illocutionary act that is a part of speech act in pragmatics that are in “The Fault In Our Stars” novel. The writer used qualitative method that focused on the analysis types and functions. The theory used in conducting this study is the theory by Yule (1996). As the result, there are 39 data of illocutionary acts that were obtained from the dialogues in “The Fault In Our Stars” novel. As conclusion, there are 14 data of Representative that have functions of describing, concluding, stating, asserting, informing. There are 13 data of Directive that have functions of requesting, commanding, suggesting. There are 6 data of Expressive that have functions of love, angry, hated, pleasuring, thanking. There are 5 data of Commissive that have functions of rejecting and promising. The last is the data of Declarative that has function of declaring.
