Abstract

This study aims to interpret and analyze the signs in semiotics with the objects found in some versions of Djarum cigarette advertisements on YouTube. This analysis focuses on the interpretant and implied messages of the signs in the Djarum cigarette advertisements analyzed. The writer is interested in analyzing nine kinds of Djarum cigarette advertisements because they have the implied messages in the signs in Djarum Cigarettes advertisements, which some people who watch these advertisements may not understand it. The results of this study showed that all of the Djarum cigarette advertisements have the same messages that are to persuade consumers to buy this product, in spite of the different signs in each advertisement. Subsequently, this study uses descriptive qualitative method since the writer collects the data in the form of the words and the result is descriptive analysis. This study also uses the three elements from Charles Sander Pierce that are representamen (sign), object, and the interpretant.
