Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the types of presupposition in the utterance of The Ellen TV Show. A purpose of this study was particularly to identify the types of presupposition and to analyze the meanings of those presupposition found in The Ellen TV Show. In analyzing the data Yule’s theory (1996) was used. Presupposition is divided into six types of presupposition, namely, existential presupposition, factive presupposition, lexical presupposition, structural presupposition, non-factive presupposition and counterfactual presupposition. The method used in this study is qualitative, because the data obtained are taken from some articles and books. Based on data analysis it was found that there are six types of presupposition, and the dominant is Structural Presupposition. Key words: Pragmatics, Presupposition, Existential Presupposition, Factive Presupposition, Lexical Presupposition, Structural Presupposition, Non-factive Presupposition, Counterfactual Presupposition.
