Abstract
This study analyzed the types and functions of code switching and code mixing in Rising Star Indonesia concerts. This study uses Musyken (2000) theory to categorize the types of code mixing and Poplack (1980) theory to find out the types of code switching in the object. In addition, to find out the functions of code switching and code mixing in the object, this study uses Hoffman (1991) theory. This study found that the types of code switching in Rising Star Indonesia categorized they are as tag switching, inter-sentential and intra-sentential then three types of code mixing such as insertional, alternation and congruent lexicalization. Five functions of code switching and mixing are found in the object such as interjection, being emphatic, quoting somebody else, intention to clarify and to repeat the codes for clarification.
