Abstract

The title of this study is “An Analysis of Code Switching and Code Mixing Used in Rudy Habibie (Habibie Ainun 2) film script”. This study concerns with sociolinguistics which aims to identify code switching and code mixing on Rudy Habibie (Habibie Ainun 2) film script and to analyze the types and the functions of it. This study applies theory from Stockwell to analyze the types and theory from Hymes in Saville Troike to analyze the functions of the data. This study uses qualitative approach to analyze the data which are taken from the dialogues and narratives on Rudy Habibie (Habibie Ainun 2) film script. The writer chooses 19 code switching and 21 code mixing from the source and classifies the types and the functions of it. There are two types of code switching and two types of code mixing found from the data, tag switching, inter-sentential switching, inter-sentential mixing and intra-sentential mixing. The functions of code switching are mostly referential and expressive which contains true or false propositional content and expression shows on the feeling and emotion of the speaker and the functions of code mixing cover almost all the functions due to the form of code mixing which contains an expressive utterances which are mentioned on the theory.
