Abstract

In a thesis with entitled “An Analysis of Vulgar Language in 21 Jump Street Movie”, the writer analyzed the use of vulgar language that focuses on the characters’ dialogues which are found in 21 Jump Street movie. Qualitative method was chosen for this study to analyzed the whole data in film. The writer uses this movie as a source of research because there are many vulgar words used in the dialogues. The purpose of this study is to classify the categories of vulgar language and the factors which cause the characters use the vulgar language. In this research, the writer found a few of vulgar language such as; religious words, confused words, angry words, the body function words and curse words. This study uses the theory of vulgar language and taboo as the theoritical framework. Keywords: Linguistics, Sociolinguistic, Vulgar Language, Taboo
