Abstract

This study aims at identifying and finding a Violation Maxim of Cooperative Principle which are performed in “A Little Something Different” novel. In this study entitled “An Analysis of Cooperative Principles In the A Little Something Different Novel Based on Grice Theory, the writer focuses on Violation Maxim of Cooperative Principle to get the data interpretation. Qualitative approach is used in this study by employing the theory from Grice (1975). The result of the study shows categories of Violation Maxim of Cooperative Principle found are Violation Maxim of Quantity, Violation Maxim of Quality, Violation Maxim of Relevance and Violation Maxim of Manner. Then implied meaning of maxim violations founds in the utterance, it causes depends on speaker’s purpose in the contextual conversation.
