Abstract
This study was entitled an analysis of slang words in selected Snoop Dogg’s song lyrics. This study focused on analyzing about slang words found, the meanings of slang words , the types of slang words and the function of slang words in five song lyrics of Snoop Dogg. The aims of this study was to describe the use of slang words in the song lyrics. Qualitative method is used to analyze the data. There are five songs that taken as the data sources. They are Bathtub, Doggy Dogg World, Smoke Weed Everyday (feat Dr. Dre & Kurupt), I Wanna Fuck You, Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa, Young, Wild, and Free ft. Bruno Mars. The writer used Partridge theory (1950) to help her analysis and The Routledge Dictionary of American Slang and Unconventional English (2009) by Tom Dalzell then Urban Dictionary used also to help her study in finding the possible meaning found in the song lyrics. The result of this study showed that the society slang is the most dominant type of slang words used in the song lyrics. Keywords : Language, Sociolingusitics, Slang words, Song lyrics
